WELL DONE GEORGINA!
Some of you may be aware Georgina (age 10) who is the daughter of Direct Services Worker Vannessa in Plymouth, has been competing in The Schools Challenge to run the Plymouth half marathon. The aim was to get the students running the marathon over a period of weeks by running a certain amount of miles totalling the half marathon, culminating with the final mile being run on half marathon day itself, in the form of the fun run on Plymouth Hoe. Vannessa said “I have to admit I was surprised when Georgina came home from school excitedly clutching her entry form as she isn’t known for her love of sport!”
This made the event all the more special and Georgina decided that she would like to be sponsored to raise money for Eddystone’s Hardship Fund in Plymouth. Raising money for Eddystone is not an entirely new experience for Georgina, she has been a regular volunteer out on the late night street collections during World AIDS Week since the age of 6.
After much huffing and puffing (in all weathers), the final day arrived and Georgina pinned on her race number with a red ribbon and lined up with the others. Vannessa joined all the other friends and family fighting for a glimpse of their loved ones as the sea of faces rushed passed the starting line. Vannessa did managed to shout and got a wave from Georgina as she ran past wearing a huge grin, which was still on her face as she crossed the finish line, indeed it had turned into a BIG smile.
The whole event was really well organised and what a great way to get kids into fitness. After collecting all her money Georgina raised a total of £125.50 which she presented at the Client Reference Group Meeting on the 11th June in Plymouth. Well done Georgina and many thanks from everyone at Eddystone.
