Protecting Yourself

It is vitally important for everyone to practice Safer Sex and Safer Drug Use.

Safer Sex involves reducing the risk of infection through using a barrier contraception i.e. condoms or femidoms with a water based lubricant.

Regular condoms are suitable for vaginal and anal sex.

Using the condom with a WATER BASED lubricant decreases the chance of condom breaking or coming off during sex.

Safer Drug use means not sharing any injecting equipment.

This includes filters, spoons, water, etc.

There are needles exchange programmes around the country where clean needles can be obtained.

Safer Drug Use also means being aware of how certain mood altering drugs (including alcohol) can affect behaviors, such as making the practise of Safer Sex less likely.
