Domestic Abuse support for LGBT people in the South West

“Domestic abuse” and or “family abuse” (LGBT people being abused because of their sexuality or gender within families) can be difficult to identify, especially for the person experiencing it. People sometimes misunderstand domestic/family abuse as purely domestic violence. This is not the case; abuse can be physical, emotional, verbal, financial and sexual.

Domestic/family abuse is a pattern of behaviour characterised by the exercise of power & control by one person over another within the context of an intimate or family relationship.

Acknowledging that any current or ex-partner or family member is an ‘abuser’ is hard, and this can be made harder by threats of ‘outing’ or because of fear of isolation.

The domestic abuse interventions & support initiative (DAISI) project can help and is committed to supporting the LGBT community.

We provide you the support you need, at a time you need it and in a way you would like it.

Domestic/family abuse is not a gender issue; some surveys suggest there is domestic violence in up to 1 in 4 LGBT relationships.

The LGBT outreach replaces the former Broken Rainbow Cornwall support service.
