6th Womens’ Health Fair 2008

whf Stall

The sixth annual Plymouth Women’s Health Fair was held in the Guild Hall in Plymouth City Centre on Thursday, 6th March 2008. Alison Greer, Chairperson of Plymouth Network of Women officially opened the Fair at 10.15 a.m. after interacting with stall holders and talking to women who were attending the event. Attendance this year expanded to over 1,600 women, which is a positive indicator that the event is necessary and needed for women in the city and surrounding areas.

After the official opening the entertainment programme started with a Laughter Yoga workshop which was spoken about way after the event, spreading more laughter among people who had not been able to attend. Other workshops included the Singing Workshop from The Music Zone and the ever popular belly-dancing workshop with Rosie from ‘Bellywobble’.

Sienna Lingerie had a queue of women lining up for bra fitting from the start of the day right through to the time of closure. In addition to the information stalls, free complementary therapies and health-related entertainment was provided.

whf posterI would like to thank Plymouth PCT for their continued support which enabled this event to take place for another year. I am also grateful to the Teenage Pregnancy Unit for their unremitting support. My thanks also go to Caroline Vosper, Melanie Booth and Louise Luscombe who are the child carers from Green Arc Children’s Centre, and their manager, Pat Smith, for enabling the staff to provide their expertise on the day. I am very grateful to Wendy Gaston, Claire Ryan and Tammy from Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic for the therapies they provided throughout the day and also Kate Chibnall for her much appreciated nutritional advice. Cindy Willcocks provided auricular acupuncture and intended to do two workshops during the day, but in fact was kept so busy throughout the day that any time limits were cast aside to enable her to interact with women all day. All the stallholders, therapists and performers help to make the Women’s Health Fair the great success that it is, but most of all, I would like to thank The Eddystone Trust for believing in the importance of the Women’s Health Fair; all the staff (both on the day and behind the scenes), and volunteers could not have done more on the day and your continued support throughout has been invaluable.

I continue to look for partnerships with other agencies and organisations and hope that, by next year, we will have a team together to ensure the continued provision of this important annual intervention.
