Fundraising – Bath Half Marathon

Well she’s one in a million…..well actually one in 15,000. Amy Fowler ran and completed the Bath Half Marathon on 16 March and raised money for Eddystone.

Amy is not new to fundraising but having seen Stephen Fry’s programme on HIV was keen to contribute to an HIV agency.

Early on Sunday 18 March, I set off via train to Bath to support Amy in her personal endeavour to run and support Eddystone.

At the starting position there she was, petite, wearing a Barclays t-shirt and a red ribbon, waiting in line to start. Then they were off. Steered on by Amy’s sister Sophie, we went to the half-way mark to catch her.

I must admit by this time I was feeling quite emotional by the sheer effort, determination and commitment of all those running. Quite inspiring!

Waving and cheering Amy on as she passed through to venture on to the second half, we went off for a coffee and a warm up ready to go to the finishing line.

Amy said later that at this point she was chuffed to have gotten half way although she did feel that she was ready to drop. As she continued on Amy gave herself a three hour personal challenge which she succeeded in.

One of my favourite moments of the day was seeing Amy, having come over the finishing line, wrapped in a silver space blanket, a goody bag in hand, her medal and tucking into a Mars bar……. bliss.

On behalf of all at Eddystone, staff and service users, a very big thank you Amy.  You have truly made a difference.

Barclays Bank, her employer, is doubling Amy’s sponsorship which potentially could make her total raised as £800.

This will be divided between funds for the Women’s Health Fair which will go towards covering some of the costs of next year’s event and to the Hardship Fund.  The Hardship Fund share will go towards providing Complementary Therapies for people who are HIV+.  This is an essential and crucial service that is valued by users of our service; without public donations and fundraising this service would not be possible.
